From stefano.belforte@ts.infn.it Wed Mar 20 13:27:28 2002 Date: Fri, 22 Feb 2002 13:48:15 +0100 From: Stefano Belforte To: "Todd Huffman (CDF/ATLAS)" Cc: Lamberto Luminari , marco@ifca.unican.es, r.stdenis@physics.gla.ac.uk, David Waters , Franco.Semeria@bo.infn.it, roberto.carosi@pi.infn.it, mazzanti@bo.infn.it, giovanni.busetto@pd.infn.it, Ivan Vila , Alberto Ruiz , rodrigo , rmarco@ifca.unican.es, Thomas Mueller , Holger Marten , Guenter Quast , Patrick Schemitz , Paolo Mazzanti , Flavia Donno Subject: March 13 meeting Looking forward to our meeting on March 13. As ICRB chair, I offer to chair this meeting, which means dealing with agenda and minutes. One meeting outcome will be a decision on this role for the future. I understand that UK people may come the day(s) before, but have to leave 13 evening, so am doing the same, in conclusion we have wedn. 13th from 12 to 16 (possibly start later to grap little food aftern the morning GRID meeting) and possibly a little of time the previous afternoon/evening. When do peole (Todd, Rick...) have to leave ? Can we stay until 4pm ? 5pm ? 6pm ? Is everybody but them and me staying ? For the evening of March 12 I have booked an informal meeting with Francesco Prelz and/or Massimo Sgaravotto (manager and dep.mgr of DataGRID WP1, at least one of them will be there) on using DataGRID resource broker technologies in CDF. Details to be defined, of course. For out meeting I think we should have a list of goals we want to achieve, then decide an agenda. So am going in that order. Please comment as you see fit. I am a novice to these issues, as you will see immediately, and the first thing I am learning is that there is so much going on that I have decided I will not even try to stay uptodate on everything. goals -------- I think we want to start our cooperation by answering the following list of questions, starting with trivial ones. - do we want to make GRID ? - topology: euromesh vs fnalstar how much is just everbody copying data from FNAL and/or submitting jobs there vs. interplay of European sites using much higher Geant bandwidth - scope: is it just us ? when how do we get toghether with Korea etc. ? - move jobs or data ? - which first ? do we start with one of the two first ? would be any easier/faster ? which one in case - needed tools what software we need, what we have, what we miss - people who can work ? how much do we need comp.prof. vs. physists? - schedule - share hardware ? do we want to share resources among us ? with US ? with others (taiwan Korea, Canada...) ? to which extent ? how ? how do we deal with money ? - organization - interface with DataGRID and DataTAG collaboration ? joint projects ? joint requests ? DataTAG test bed - interface with PPDG/GriPhyN/.... should we worry any more then "let's FNAL deal with them, and we just deal with FNAL ?" The above is sketchy, but if we get a shot at answering each from all countries, we should have a picture of the global thing. agenda ---------- 1. Say hello, introduce to each other, decide on agenda 15min 2. round of intro: each of us (Italy/SPain/Germany/UK) goes through status/plans/people, what hw will be available when plans for data sets hosting (if any) .... 4x10 min. 45min 3. common discussion on what to get serious on today, address above list og goals and just define which to tackle, priotities etc. discuss conclusion on blackboard 15min 4. get serious about things in the order defined above we will only be able to deal with 2-3 topis, 30 min each 1hour 5. organizational issues mailing list, contact, responsible, work to do, docs... do we need a "coordinator" ? next meeting(s)... 30min total : 3 hours 13-16 Since things will take more time then that, unless we can do a lot by e-mail in advance, this is why I suggest moving something to the night before. try to do something the night before: 1 hour, 20-21 ? 19-20 ? cover point 1. of agenda, hopefully also (part of) 2. discuss with DataGRID WP1: what could be use of their suite, when, where...
