To save my disk space, I usually put postscript files in these
pages in gnu zipped format (gz suffix). I create them from ps files
with the unix GNU utility gzip (inverted by gunzip).
The two programs gzip and the gunzip are
usually found on all Unix workstation.
Some browsers (like Netscape 3.1 on Pisa's AIX and HP workstations) nicely
pipe the xxxxx.ps.gz file through gunzip and ghostview and it is all
transparent. If your browser does not handle the .ps.gz file,
try to save it first,
then ftp to unix, gunzip and ghostview it.
For example Netscape 3.0 on Windows95
opens the gzipped file in
GSview without gunzipping it
first, so it does not display,
you have to save it from GSview and then becomes
a file associated with WinZip that you can unzip and GSview by e.g. double-clicking on it
in the Windows Explorer ! (At least this works on my PC).
WinZip is a shareware program available on almost all Windows software
repositories.
